Railroad tycoon John Worthington has no time for his children, Edith and Fred. His wife, Marion, is too busy with her social life to spend time with her offspring. The selfish Worthingtons have a bitter divorce and the judge awards each parent custody of one child, so tragically, the siblings grow up without any further contact. The traumatized brother and sister mature into troubled adults. Edith unknowingly marries a wanted criminal, and Fred finds himself facing the gallows, on trial for murder.
Natalie Moorhead appeared in dozens of movies from 1929 through to the mid-1940s, most notably Hook Line and Sinker (1930), Bedroom Parlor and Bath (1931) and The Thin Man (1934). Sonny Bupp had the distinction of appearing in Orson Welles' 1941 masterpiece, Citizen Kane.
