Spurred on by his beautiful fiance, Lorna Quidley, concert pianist Daubeney Carshott abandons his prominent position in London society. He sails for remote Thursday Island in the South Seas, where he plans to bring his lady love a giant pearl that he has wrestled from the ocean floor with his own hands. Pearl diving is treacherous, but Daubeney is a highly motivated student, and is soon diving as if he where a native. He eventually locates a huge pearl, but the competition for the prize is fierce, leaving two men dead. Although he has appeared to triumph, on the way he has made a shocking discovery about Lorna, that places his quest in a whole new disturbing light.
Handsome leading man Lloyd Hughes was a silent screen star appearing opposite Mary Astor, Colleen Moore and Mary Pickford. He is best remembered for his roles in Tess Of The Storm Country (1922), The Lost World (1925) and Moby Dick (1930).
