Fifi Follette is a double threat. She rides bucking broncos in the Calgary Rodeo by day and sings in the cabaret at night. Ambitious Larry Boyd catches her act and sees his ticket to the big time. Larry convinces the coquettish French flame to team up with him, and the two lovebirds head for Broadway. Fifi's natural charms wow the jaded New York audiences, and soon she's the toast of the Great White Way. With stardom come the trappings of success, but profit-mad producers squeeze Larry out of the picture. He has a few hard lessons to learn before he and Fifi can find true happiness in the Big Apple.
Born Yvonne Lussier in Montreal in 1904, Fifi D'Orsay was a NYC vaudeville star in the Twenties before she switched coasts to pursue a film career in Hollywood. By the Fifties, she was alternating between stage, screen and television roles. In 1971, at the age of 67, she had a starring role in the Tony award-winning musical, Follies. Her co-star in The Girl From Calgary, Paul Kelly, also went on to Broadway success, receiving a Tony for Best Actor in 1948.
