Stolen Sweets (MOD) (DVD MOVIE)

$18.92
Patricia Belmont is a perpetually bored heiress from New York with a stuffy fiance and an overprotective father. She longs for the excitement she has never known in her life. On a whim, she decides to take a Transatlantic cruise. There she meets Bill Smith, a fun-loving insurance salesman down on his luck. The two begin a whirlwind romance, but upon their return to New York, Bill discovers that Patricia is engaged to be married. To make matters worse, her father is infuriated at his daughter for taking up with a man with a less than impressive bank account. The lovestruck socialite decides to win back the hurt Bill, even if it means being cut off from her father's millions forever.

Stolen Sweets' leading man, Charles Starrett, began his career when, as a star football player at Darmouth College, he was selected to appear in Paramount's The Quaterback (1926). Bit by the acting bug, he put aside his athletic career to find success in Hollywood. Two years after the release of Stolen Sweets, he signed with Columbia Pictures. He would spend the next 16 years starring in over 100 Westerns for the studio, most famously as "The Durango Kid". Director Richard Thorpe had an over 40-year career in Hollywood, mostly spent at MGM. His filmography includes entries in the popular Tarzan and Thin Man series, the historical dramas Ivanhoe and The Prisoner of Zenda (both 1952), and the Elvis Presley vehicle Jailhouse Rock (1957). The gorgeous Sally Blane was the younger sister of screen legend Loretta Young and appeared in classics like I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932) and The Story of Alexander Graham Bell (1939). The middle sibling of the Young family, Polly Ann Young, also appears in Stolen Sweets. She is best remembered for the Bela Lugosi thriller Invisible Ghost (1941).
