Eddie Bentley may be Westmore College's top athlete, but he has a knack for getting into trouble. After starting a fight with a rival fraternity member, he finds himself expelled. Down on his luck, he learns of the kidnapping of gorgeous young heiress June Merton. With the help of his valet, Shadow, he concocts a plan to save June and make good in the eyes of the school. But the rescue won't be as easy as he thinks, and Eddie may have finally found a fight he won't be able to walk away from.

Social Error is a showcase for daredevil actor Dave Sharpe. His acrobatic work in Hal Roach's The Boy Friends series (1930-1932) led to Sharpe being signed by producer William Berke to star in his own low-budget action features. Afterwards he became a full-time stuntman, eventually appearing in thousands of films, including a stint as Republic Pictures' stunt coordinator. Pretty Gertrude Messinger, who began acting as a child in the silent era and later appeared in scores of "B" westerns, was at the time married to Sharpe. Lloyd Hughes started his career in prestigious silents like The Sea Hawk (1924) and The Lost World (1925), but by the talkie era had become a fixture in "B" pictures with titles such as The Drums of Jeopardy (1931) and Midnight Phantom (1935). African-American comedian Fred "Snowflake" Toones was a popular presence, if an unheralded one, in films of the 1930s and 40s. He appeared in over 200 films between 1931 and 1947, usually uncredited.
