Amelia Harris has always dreamed of becoming a singer, but those dreams have taken a backseat. Between her mother's declining health and the stifling atmosphere at work, her creative spark has dimmed. When an open mic competition offers the rare chance to perform for a record label executive, Amelia signs up, only to be pulled away once again by her caregiving responsibilities for her mother, Sadie. Refusing to let her friend's talent go unseen, Amelia's best friend Reagan secretly signs her up for another night and volunteers to care for her mother, giving Amelia a second shot. While Reagan watches over Sadie, an old interview with music legend D-Mac airs and ends with a number to call for a mysterious "paternity party." The revelation strikes a chord: D-Mac and Sadie share a complicated past. What's the harm in reaching out? A few days later, Amelia receives an unexpected invitation to the paternity party.
