Fifteen-year-old Sherry Williams is the featured vocalist in the Fernridge School of Music's annual concert. She has dreams of following in the footsteps of her older sister, Josephine, who is a singing sensation in New York City, although perhaps not the kind Sherry imagines. Unbeknownst to the young girl, the older sister who has paid Sherry's way through school is known in the Big Apple as "Bubbles Barton, the Queen of Burlesque." This secret arrangement works to everyone's advantage until Sherry makes a surprise trip to the city to see Josephine perform and learns the shocking truth.

Filled with lavish musical productions that feature the works of Morton Gould and his orchestra, Delightfully Dangerous showcases the beautiful soprano voice of a young Jane Powell. Having sung professionally since the age of 13, Jane went on to star in Royal Wedding (1951) and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954). In 1957 she effectively retired from films and returned to her theatrical roots on Broadway, starring in such hits as South Pacific, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady and Carousel.
