Confidential (MOD) (DVD Movie)

A crime syndicate has the entire city in its grip and the numbers racket is costing hard-working citizens a fortune. While pursuing his investigation, Treasury Agent Dave Elliot must watch helplessly as his best friend is murdered by the gangsters. Determined to bust the mob wide open, Dave goes undercover and is hired as a numbers enforcer. He gets close to discovering the identity of the mastermind behind the criminal organization, when he is recognized by a sadistic hit man, reducing his chances for survival to slim and none.

Donald Cook is probably best remembered for portraying Mike Powers in Public Enemy (1931) as well as notable roles in Show Boat (1936), The Casino Murder Case (1935) and Ellis Island (1936). Confidential features a strong supporting cast which includes beautiful Evalyn Knapp, Theodore Von Eltz, Warren Hymer, J. Carrol Naish, Herbert Rawlinson and Kane Richmond. After directing a series of Our Gang comedies from 1939 to 1943, Edward L. Cahn went on to helm several 1950's B classics, most notably Dragstrip Girl (1957), Invasion Of The Saucer Men (1957) and It! The Terror From Beyond Space (1958).
