Young and elegant Mary Smith hates the DA who sent her innocent brother Claude to the electric chair. When the DA turns up dead, Mary is instantly a suspect. Buddy Hayes, the son of a wealthy Wall Street financier, is convinced of Mary's innocence. Determined to redeem her, he must help Mary clear her own name before she's sent to jail for good.

Originally a Ziegfeld Follies dancer, Blanche Mehaffey starred in several Hal Roach comedies in the 1920s alongside Charley Chase. After a brief hiatus from film work, she returned in the 1930s to headline B-westerns such as The Outlaw Tamer (1935) and The Cowboy and the Bandit (1935), for which she was billed as Janet Morgan. John Darrow began his film career in the 1920s; he went on to star in Howard Hughes's cult classic Hell's Angels (1930) and a handful of B-movies before becoming a successful talent agent. Although Gwen Lee never became one of Hollywood's leading ladies, the former department-store model managed to appear in over 60 films between 1925 and 1938, including the acclaimed Laugh, Clown, Laugh (1928) with Lon Chaney and A Lady of Chance (1928) with Norma Shearer. With approximately 500 films to his credit, comic actor Raymond Hatton gained recognition with Republic Pictures' Three Mesquiteers film series as cowboy Rusty Joslin. Although director E. Mason Hopper did most of his work during the silent era, he also turned out notable talkies such as Their Own Desire (1929) and Curtain at Eight (1934).
