On February 9, 2001, the commander of the nuclear submarine USS Greeneville ordered a spontaneous surfacing drill to impress a group of onboard civilians. As the vessel broke surface at high speed, it collided with the Ehime Maru, a Japanese fishing trawler carrying students on a research trip. The Japanese demanded an official apology from President Bush and retrieval of the wreckage and the nine bodies onboard. We see how the Navy pulled off one of history's greatest salvage operations.
