U. S. Marshals Tim McCall and Buck Roberts travel to Dodgetown, Texas to celebrate the birthday of old pal Sandy Hopkins. Together Tim, Buck and Sandy are the legendary Rough Riders, lawmen that helped settle the frontier.

Arriving in town, they learn that Sandy is the prime suspect in the murder of John Dodge, who held the mortgage on Hopkins' modest hotel. Angry at the death of the town's founder, the citizenry of Dodgetown are demanding Sandy's punishment.

Tim discovers that Sandy has fallen prey to a plot by Logan, a convict who seeks revenge for having been sent to prison by the Rough Riders years before. Tim and Buck go undercover to expose Logan's treachery before Sandy's impending execution.

The sixth of eight Rough Rider westerns released by Monogram in 1941-42, Down Texas Way is a tight and efficient B picture featuring a clever script directed with unusual polish by Howard P. Bretherton. The other Rough Rider adventures are Arizona Bound, The Gunman from Bodie, Forbidden Trails, Below The Border, Ghost Town Law, Riders of the West and West of the Law.
