A wealthy Englishman is killed in his home and Detective Inspector Philip Winton is called in to solve the murder. D.I. Winton discovers that the victim made a pact with four other men: at the end of a five year period, they would divide their earnings evenly. When two more pact members are murdered, there are only two men left to split the fortune. With the agreement terminating the next day at midnight, and Scotland Yard threatening to take over the case, D.I. Winton is running out of time to trap the killer.
Albert Parker is best-known for directing 1926's The Black Pirate, starring Douglas Fairbanks. Playing Police Sergeant McKay was Alastair Sim's first film role; he went on to star in Scrooge (1951) and The Belles of St. Trinian's.
