With the young prince at death's door, the Czarina of Russia sends for the monk Rasputin, who is said to have miraculous healing powers. The mysterious holy man restores the boy to health and becomes so enmeshed with his grateful benefactors, that the Emperors are soon unable to make a decision, without consulting him. Scandal abounds as the beautiful frustrated aristocrat wives of Moscow line up at Rasputin's apartment, to avail themselves of his legendary lovemaking prowess. As the "Mad Monk's" power grows, so does the list of nobles who want him dead. A conspiracy is hatched among Moscow's elite to remove Rasputin once and for all.

Son of the legendary John Barrymore, John Drew Barrymore, father of the famed actress, was known for his roles in The Big Night (1951) and Never Love A Stranger (1958). British actor Edmond Purdom is best remembered for Sword Of Freedom (1957), Herod The Great (1959), Ator, The Fighting Eagle (1982) and Pieces (1982).
