The citizens of a pastoral French town are unaware that their icy schoolteacher (Jeanne Moreau), respectfully known only as "Mademoiselle," is the unknown sociopath cruelly inflicting acts of destruction in their midst. Secretly obsessed with an Italian logger, the educator channels her repressed passion into tormenting his son and committing crimes -- with breathless glee -- that are blamed on him.
