Movie description 10.5: First appearing as an NBC original miniseries, 10.5 stars Emmy- and Golden Globe-winner Kim Delaney (NYPD BLUE) as Dr. Samantha Hill, an academic earthquake research scientist from a university in Washington State. When an earthquake strikes California, breaking all records and surpassing measurement on the Richter scale, it is up to Hill to apply her contested theories to reality, saving the West Coast from imminent destruction. While her controversial ideas and efficient take-charge attitude cause infighting among her fellow scientists, President Paul Hollister (Emmy- and Golden Globe-winner Beau Bridges) and his team scramble to evacuate the coast before it is effectively shattered by the natural disaster. The rest of the star-powered cast includes Ivan Sergei (CROSSING JORDAN), Dul? Hill (THE WEST WING), John Schneider (SMALLVILLE), Kaley Cuoco (8 SIMPLE RULES...FOR DATING MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER), and Fred Ward (SWEET HOME ALABAMA). CATEGORY 6: DAY OF DESTRUCTION: An extravagant CBS miniseries that serves as a vehicle for some spectacular special effects, the DAY OF DESTRUCTION is fast approaching Chicago in the form of three separate weather systems set to collide there: a tornado cluster that has already laid waste to Las Vegas, an Arctic front from the north, and a warm storm front from the south. A subplot involving a national energy crisis, during which the national power grid fails, is navigated by a heroic Mitch Benson (Thomas Gibson); he battles the capitalist superstructure to restore power to the city, so that people can be warned in time. The series follows the major players in this natural disaster melodrama, including Andy Goodman (Brian Dennehy, SHE HATE ME), a meteorologist about to retire who discovers the imminent disaster. Amy Harkins (Nancy McKeon) is a local TV journalist who is reporting on the crippling drought that has dragged on for weeks. She chafes under bureaucratic strictures, which forbid her to present the truth about who's really behind the power grid failure. Finally there's Tornado Tommy (Randy Quaid, INDEPENDENCE DAY), a thrill-seeker who chases storms in his tricked-out SUV.

He's chosen for a post at MIT, which includes crucial code-breaking work for the US government. There, he meets a beautiful and brilliant student, Alicia (Jennifer Connelly). They marry but their happiness is threatened, as Nash, belatedly diagnosed as schizophrenic, descends into madness.

Movie description The movie stars Viggo Mortensen as Tom Stall, a quiet, easygoing family man who runs a diner in a small Indiana town. But when two dangerous criminals come into the restaurant prepared to wreak havoc, Stall turns hero and shoots them both. After Stall's story is blasted all over the media, Philly mobster Carl Fogaty (an excellent Ed Harris) shows up, claiming that Tom is actually former hit man Joey Cusack--and they've got some important business to finish. While Stall insists that Fogaty is mistaken, his family--his wife, Edie (Maria Bello); teenage son, Jack (Ashton Holmes); and young daughter, Sarah (Heidi Hayes)--gets dragged into the danger that constantly threatens to explode. Cronenberg, whose films often deal with the fantastical, the futuristic, and the supernatural, has done a masterly job creating a wholly believable modern world where evil lurks just around the corner. Howard Shore's tense, moody music complements the outstanding acting in a violent, powerful film that is not to be missed.

Movie description Of three suburban couples suffering marital difficulties, one finds itself unexpectedly splitting when Addie Ross (Celeste Holm) runs off with one of the husbands while the wives are away on a trip--but which husband? Addie's note to the wives doesn't say. Entangled in suspense as to who has flown the coop, the three wives reflect on their marriages and the stresses within them: one wife met her upper-crust hubby while in the service and fears that she doesn't belong in his social class; another is a radio soap opera writer whose career is interfering with her marriage to a university professor; and the last is a gold digger from the wrong side of the tracks, in a turbulent marriage to a coarse businessman.

Movie description Winding curves and smashing dead ends make SUMMER PLACE a truly ironic tale of unrequited love and teenage lust. When a business man, Ken Jorgenson (Richard Egan) takes his wife, Helen (Constance Ford) and his daughter Molly (Sandra Dee) to an island off the coast of Maine, little does he suspect that he will rekindle the teenage love affair he once had with the now married Sylvia (Dorothy McGuire). Now it seems that events are going to repeat themselves when her son (Troy Donahue) and his daughter meet and fall in love.

Movie description In Michael Curtiz's swashbuckling spectacle about the infamous outlaw and his band of merry men who "robbed from the rich and gave to the poor," Robin Hood (Errol Flynn) fights nobly for justice against the evil Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Basil Rathbone) while striving to win the hand of the beautiful Maid Marian (Olivia de Havilland). Flynn joyously embraces the role widely considered the best of his bountiful array of swashbuckling legends. Delivering his lines and performing dashing acrobatics (he did most of his own stunts) with breezy élan, he darts across the intricate sets of THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD as if there are rocket boosters secreted in his tights. It was one of the earliest films to use three-color Technicolor and, at the time, the most expensive film Warner Bros. had produced. Erich Wolfgang Korngold's outstanding score won an Oscar, as did the art direction and the editing.
Credits Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone, Claude Rains, Olivia de Havilland
